Blue (and Yellow) Monday

I had a really busy but good teaching day today. It shouldn't be a surprise, but now that I'm well, I'm having good days at school!

After seeing all the sunshine and spring this weekend, the first thing I did when I got home today was cut some extra long forsythia branches that were encroaching on the front porch chair and put them in a Bristol blue vase in the sunroom. (It isn't a true Bristol vase, but the color's the same.) The contrast doesn't show up as much in this photo, but I think it's perfect. And of course you can see my basket of cotton yarn and a vase of shells on the table as well. Spring is here and summer is soon to follow. And since it's beach time, I had to find a cotton yarn project. One of my teammates is expecting her second son in May, so I'm making a cotton cardigan, using this pattern from Itty Bitty Nursery. I'm deviating wildly from the color combo so as to make it boy-like, but I liked the look of the pattern. I'm doing repeats of these colors and stripe widths and hoping the back matches easily to the fronts. It would have been simpler to make a pullover, but I wanted to do a cardi. I may need to order more skeins of the Mission Falls 1824 cotton to make sure I have enough, but I really think I'll be okay. Famous last words.

The setting for the photograph is my nature table on the deck. Even though my girls are all grown up, I still like having a nature table in my life. Driftwood from our beach and the newest shells and an egg sac from my last trip to the Outer Banks.

Still room on the table for our feet and/or a beverage or two, although we have to clear it off when we play Scrabble.

  1. Glad you're feeling better.
I like your nature table. It's fun to have unusual things that you've discovered right where you can rediscover them. And visiting folks - via blog - can see them, too.
I love the colors in that boy's sweater. And I'm a sucker for seed stitch. Nice.

  2. Do you think those probiotics helped? I swear by them these days.

We have forsythia buds, but no blooms. Yet.

  3. Rudee, yes thanks, I think the probiotics helped. As a matter of fact, I'm going to take one a day for awhile, just to build up some good stuff. (I hope)

  4. I love the idea of the nature table. I think I'll start one on our patio for the girls this summer.

  5. Love that you still have a nature table! And that you are constantly knitting for others - i give away most of what i sew and some quilts but i have issues re parting with my knits. I'm envious of all your trips to the beach - wish we lived a bit closer to the ocean. Can't wait til spring break - we're spending three whole days in virginia beach!

  6. Larissa--let me know when and maybe we can hook up for lunch or something.

Stephanie & Jenn--I have a couple of bowls in my house with items like that too; maybe I'll photograph them soon. Don't know why I love that kind of stuff but I do.
