Still Winter

I'm working on the front of the Edie sweater but it doesn't look any different than the back at this point, so not much to show. And since I still haven't been able to take any pictures of my new yarn during the day yet, I can't show you that either. Instead, I'll show you a few more pictures of Gracie, taken as I sat on the couch after dinner:

Although you can't tell it here, it isn't always easy to get a picture of her.

I really can't get over how much better second semester is, compared to last semester. I have first block planning instead of fourth and that has really helped my productivity. Last semester, I'd teach my three blocks, then kind of collapse at my desk without accomplishing very much. Now, I go in and work on stuff while I'm fresh and then just power through the three blocks. And so far, the kids are really good too. In addition, not having a home room also means I don't have to babysit for the first 30 minutes of the day, which is also awesome. My Transition class has the usual issues, but since there are only 8 students in that block, I can stay on top of them. My 10th graders finished up the Julius Caesar video today, which means we start the real work tomorrow, but I think it will go smoother now that they have the whole story. I took my juniors to see a student production of The Lottery today and was so impressed with the skill level of the actors. I can't imagine having the nerve to get on stage as a high school student, let alone do such a great job at it!

Finally, here's a picture of Melissa, while she was sketching her cat, Fern. She didn't know I was taking it and probably wouldn't be happy with me for posting it, as she's been sick the past two days. She had a horrible stomach virus and barely moved for over 24 hours, but she's on the mend now. I love the look of concentration on her face. But of course, I love everything about that girl.

  2. I am so glad that this semester is going well for you. At our school, everything runs for a year, so there just isn't that change of pace.
Your meals (from your last post) look fabulous. Wish I could come to dinner! And I am thrilled to hear that coffee is good for liver function.

  3. I loved having first period planning and no homeroom. Homeroom is a zoo, always, unless you have a senior homeroom, which is a gift.

For a few idyllic years, I had first period planning and last period conference. I KNOW! It was a dream.

Keep up the good work habits and it will become such a routine that you'll simply power through as a matter of course. So glad that things are going well.

    Gracie--another Joy in your life.
