One of the local yarn shops does this great Super Bowl Sale every year; as this is the same store which does a Black Friday gift card sale, I tend to shop there mainly on these two days. On Black Friday, when you buy a gift card, you get double the amount that you pay for it. So essentially, you are getting a 50% discount on whatever you buy when you use the card, and on the Super Bowl sale day, she marks everything in the store at least 20% off, and anything she wants to clear out, she marks at 60%. Needless to say, I bought some yarn there yesterday, even though many would say I didn't need any of it. Our knitting group made an outing of it, first going to breakfast together, and then, after shopping, sitting and knitting for an hour or two together. All in all, it was a lovely girls' day out. I don't have photos yet, because I want to take the pictures in daylight.
I've gotten into a pretty good routine with my diet. A salad like this for lunch hardly looks like deprivation, does it? And my dinner tonight was roast chicken, sautéed spinach and mushrooms, and wild rice. Filling, healthy, and delicious.
I also treated myself to a bunch of flowers for my classroom last week, and they still look great. Not bad for $4. The room looks dark because I was showing the Julius Caesar video; the shades were pulled down and the lights were off. I am trying something different this semester with the play, by showing the video first, then reading and analyzing the play. A colleague said she did it this way during summer school and she thought it worked really well. And after all, Shakespeare was meant to be seen, not read, originally.
Oh I wish my LYS would have sales like that!
ReplyDeleteI truly love Gracie - she seems so sweet, and is such a pretty girl!
Thanks, Bridget, I think she's pretty too!
DeleteLove these little glimpses! I bought a manual milk frother from bed bath and beyond (for like $20 with a small french press) and it's surprisingly good at making foam. It doesn't steam the milk, so it's not quite the same flavor as a latte, but it still makes my homemade drink feel special.
ReplyDeleteThe machine I had couldn't have cost much as I was quite poor at the time; I'm definitely looking this weekend! Thanks for your idea too!
DeleteMy migraines make artificial sweeteners impossible, so I have to use real sugar(s) in my coffee. I hate dumping it in, no matter if I use maple syrup or whatever. I only drink two cups in the morning, but I can't do without half and half and the sugar. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYour salad looks terrific, and I could eat that way all the time, but Rick has to have more substantial fare. If not, he raids the cookies and other sweets.
You sound so much more positive and directed. I'm glad.
Which JC are you showing? Hate that Charlton Heston one. You know that Brutus (Jason Robards) was snockered the entire time, right? It's just awful. I did a post on that, if you are interested. It's here.
I hate that one too, but I did use it this time. You know, I though Robards acted awfully flat throughout which was surprising because he was a good actor in other things. Heston is oddly red haired looking too, but I thought the actor playing Cassius did a good job. I'll have to read your post about it to find out which one you like. I tried the black and white one with Heston once but it was awful; way too melodramatic and too early in the special effects department for my kids. Remember, this is only my 2nd year teaching this play, so I'm glad for the input!
DeleteOh, I showed the Brando version last year and liked it; read somewhere that the age of Caesar was more accurate in that version. I swear, I'm getting some of the lines memorized already!
